Marantz 7C Vintage Stereo Tube Preamp

$ 1953.07

Availability: 11 in stock
  • Condition: This is a working unit. Relatively nice cosmetics - i.e., no serious scratches, dings or dents from mishandling. Has two service stickers. One from 1982; the other from 1987. A very recent repair involved the replacement of LV Filament supply silicon bridge rectifier. Besides a faulty intermittent volume control, this preamp sounds very nice; the phono section sounded wonderful for 10 years operation. Note, all power supply capacitors and the HV selenium rectifier are original components; these must be replaced with modern components including the intermittent Volume control for reliable, long-term operation; hence, this device is offered for restoration.
  • Model: Marantz 7C
  • Brand: Marantz

    I am offering the
    vintage
    Marantz 7 preamplifier
    S/N 7-21059
    without
walnut cabinet displayed in the photo. This is a
    working
device; however, many electrical components including
    - the power supply electrolytic capacitors, HV selenium rectifier, and intermittent Volume control potentiometer -
    are
    original,
hence this device is offered for
    parts &
    restoration.
    It is evident that the
    original
filament supply selenium rectifier was replaced; also note that a resistor network was added
either back in 1982 or 1987
above the terminal strip presumably to accommodate the previous
    replacement
    silicon bridge rectifier
    - see photos.
The same shop technician replaced several "Bumble Bee" AC coupling capacitors with the orange mylar types, and
    four
electrolytic cathode bypass capacitors were replaced as well
    - see photos.
Besides these components, most others appear to be
    original
including the power supply capacitors and the HV selenium rectifier
    - see photos.
    This preamp is specified for
    117V
operation. This preamp was tested at slightly
    reduced
voltage and both power supplies look to be
    OK
. Five of the six preamp tubes are
    Telefunken
; the other (V2) is an
    Amperex Bugle-Boy (Holland)
    -
    see photo
. All tubes test at least above nominally good and are presumed to be the original complement for this device
    - see photo
    .
The exterior is not perfect; however, is in relatively nice cosmetic condition - i.e., the soft metal front panel does not display any seriously deep scratches, dents or dings from mishandling
    - see photos.
The preamplifier does have some interior dust and grime, however, I've opted
    not
    to clean the device and
    risk smearing the lettering on
the tubes - or, leaving any residue on the interior board, wiring and components.
I have never used Deoxit on the controls for this device as well. Detailed photos of the interior including views of the previous repairs are provided for your inspection
    - see photo
    .
Even with the problematic Volume control, vinyl LP records played through this preamp last sounded
    wonderful.
Interested buyers familiar with this device are invited to bring their own test instruments and inspect the device for themselves; hence, local pickup is available and preferred.
Again, this device is offered without its walnut cabinet and as described in this listing.
